Theatre Wallay follows a structured approach to developing theater performances on social issues like gender-based violence (GBV). Our process begins with thoroughly understanding the issue and our partner’s perspective. This involves reviewing materials, understanding the partner’s efforts, challenges, and expectations, and focusing on the human aspect of the issue rather than statistics. Real-life stories provide us with a foundation for creating relevant and engaging performances.
We also engage with the target audience, often unfamiliar to us, to gather their views on the issue. These insights help us craft a script that speaks both to our partner’s objectives and the audience’s understanding of the problem.
Our team uses Improv techniques to develop compelling scenes. Actors perform scenarios without a script, allowing the scriptwriter to capture key moments. Additionally, we account for local contexts and cultural nuances, adapting characters and dialogues for different regions in Pakistan. Once the scenes are developed, the director and scriptwriter finalize the script, incorporating feedback from senior team members and partners before rehearsals begin.
