On 17th December, Theatre Wallay took the stage at the Festival of Harmony and Inclusion, organised by the Aga Khan Foundation at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, with their short play Kuch Karna Paray Ga. The performance explored gender-based violence and emphasised the critical role of women’s financial independence in protecting against abuse.

Written by Safeer Ullah Khan and directed by Fizza Hasan, the 20-minute play presented everyday scenarios of domestic and social coercion, provoking reflection and sparking conversations among the audience.

The roots of Kuch Karna Paray Ga lie in the lived experiences of students and communities across Pakistan. The play was born from stories gathered during intensive theatre workshops at Peshawar University and Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, as part of an earlier project titled Hifazat. By weaving together these authentic accounts of domestic and gender-based violence, the team transitioned from research to the stage, ensuring that every scene resonates with the raw, relatable truth of the audience’s own lives.

Through performances like Kuch Karna Paray Ga, Theatre Wallay demonstrates that theatre can be more than entertainment — it can be a mirror to society, opening spaces for dialogue, empathy, and meaningful change.

The Cast included: Safeer Ullah Khan, Usmani Shafique, Tayyab Ali, Sahar Saqib, and Ayesha Ayub.

“I could see myself or people I know in these scenes,” shared one audience member, reflecting how the stories resonated with real-life experiences.

“It made me think about issues we often ignore at home and in society,” said another attendee.
